IDEO
IDEO is an award-winning global design and innovation consultancy. The company creates positive impact through design by taking a human-centered approach to helping organizations in the public and private sectors innovate, grow, and bring to market new ideas. As an Interaction Designer in Residence, Alex has been responsible for working with user researchers, graphic- and business designers to create mockups and product prototypes, internally and for various clients. Here are a few projects that Alex worked on: Up in Years for “Designs On— Aging”Up In Years is a campaign to help prevent sexually transmitted diseases among seniors. As the Baby Boomer population ages, it has begun to adopt a “you only live once” attitude about sex. That’s great actually, except as inhibitions are lowered, and women no longer need contraception, the prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases among seniors is rising — at an alarming rate, actually. The message we want to send is simple: “Use a condom.” Sure the tone is a little cheeky. For this audience, there’s no need to be a buzz kill. But they could use a dose of reality. Before they need a dose of something else. Alex’s role: concepting, graphic design. Made in the Future (IDEO)In 2013 and 2014, in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a group of IDEO designers has worked on creating Made in the Future, an IDEO’s exploration on how the process of making might look in a decade from now and how the products that could shape our lives in the future could work. The outcome is a set of five stories on the future of making that were featured at the conferences like SXSW (South by SouthWest) and in major design media outlets. Alex was responsible for concepting and interaction design for the project. A Smart Mattress for Tempur-SealyDesign and development of a concept for Tempur Sealy’s temperature-adjustable bed.
